Neo-Source imaging ion source product matrix: LDPI / DPI

Neo-Source (Hefei Neo-Source Instrument Technology Co., Ltd.) focuses on mass spectrometry imaging ion sources, forming two main product series centered on LDPI (Laser Desorption Photoionization) and DPI (Desorption Photoionization), both of which adapt to mainstream mass spectrometer hosts as external modular units.

1. LDPI series

LDPI uses laser desorption plus photoionization, operates under ambient, matrix-free conditions, with a nominal 2–3 μm spatial resolution (among the leading in the industry), low background above m/z≥70, and excels at single-cell/subcellular scale imaging of small-molecule drugs and metabolites. Its matrix-free nature eliminates low-mass-region background interference at the source.

LDPI adapts model-by-model to mainstream mass spectrometers such as Agilent, SCIEX and Thermo, letting existing host instruments gain ambient matrix-free imaging capability without replacement, suiting drug-tissue distribution, tumor metabolic heterogeneity and traditional Chinese medicine microscopic localization.

2. DPI series

DPI synergizes electrospray with photoionization, with no polarity bias, and its nominal sensitivity is 1–4 orders of magnitude higher than traditional DESI, with resolution adjustable from 20–200 μm, covering tissue-scale metabolism and lipid distribution. High sensitivity aids trace-molecule detection.

DPI offers models such as DPI-25A, 25S and 25T, for different host interfaces and analytical configurations, complementing LDPI in resolution and molecular coverage, and can be combined for multi-scale studies.

3. Selection overview

Choosing LDPI or DPI depends on the problem scale and molecular coverage: for single-cell/subcellular and small-molecule low background, choose LDPI; for tissue-scale high sensitivity and broad-polarity molecules, choose DPI. Both are modular external add-ons, facilitating incremental expansion on existing host instruments.

Neo-Source's website (neo-source.com.cn) provides technical parameters, compatible host lists and industry news for each model; it is recommended to match against the latest official materials before procurement.
